The one by John Marrs

If you were given the opportunity to take a DNA test that reveals exactly who your DNA match is, would you take it? And if you were already in a relationship with someone, would you want to find out if the person is your DNA match? Let's say the person isn't your match, do you stay? Do you seek your match? How far would you be willing to go to find The One?

Judy's life feels stagnant so when conversations with her DNA match warm her intestines, she figures she has nothing to lose by flying across the world to be with him. Except - he doesn't know she's coming and he's not the only one who'll be surprised.
When Christopher isn't killing women, he's either stalking them on apps or reading up on serial killers and mental illness. When he signed up for his DNA match, he did not expect to be completely distracted by her. Do opposites really attract? Also, what's the opposite of a serial killer?
Mandy hadn't even spoken to her DNA match when she started playing with the invisible engagement ring around her wedding finger. The fact that she might never get to speak to him means mourning a man she's never known - his family does make it easier though. Do they actually understand her grief or are their reasons more sinister?

Nick didn't even care for the test. It was his fiancé who insisted they take it just to make sure they were perfect for each other. It was also his fiancé who insisted he meet his match just to make sure he didn't feel anything for them.
Building a multimillion dollar company came with a lot of sacrifices for Ellie. Her thirst for success isolated her from her family as well as any prospective romantic relationships. Curiosity is the only reason why she sought out her match. However, his motives are not as benevolent.
The multiple point of views worried me at first, but each character's point of view was so interesting it felt like reading 5 different stories. Lies, secrets, deceit and betrayal are an important part of any thriller and John Marrs did not hold back as we followed the matched couples. Some dead, some dying and some responsible for a couple of deaths. I mean, how daring does it seem to trust a system with the entire world's love lives?

My favourite attributes about The One were not just the multiple plot twists, but also the way John Marrs seems to alternate between romance, sci-fi and thriller all in the same book. The humour was an added bonus.

Rating: 9.5/10
The only half a point missing is for the predictable (almost lazy) final plot twist.
